For the ‘category’ search: We have divided news items into one (or sometimes more) of three categories.
1. State.  If the news refers to a single state only, this category applies
2. Offshore. If the news relates to the entire offshore sector, for instance BOEM announcing a new leasing round, it is filed under this category
3. Policy.  Where the item doesn’t relate directly to either a state or to the offshore sector (for instance tariffs on wind components or a FERC decision) it is filed under policy

The California Coastal Commission has approved offshore wind activities in Morro Bay and Humboldt Bay that will result from the upcoming lease sale for five areas located in the waters offshore central and northern California. Under its federal consistency review authority, the Coastal Commission evaluated whether the leasing process proposed by the US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is consistent with the California Coastal Act, including site investigations that those who win at the auction will be conducting as well as the potential future lease development activities, including construction and operation of offshore wind farms.

California has moved one step closer to realizing its offshore wind targets, as BW Ideol’s floating offshore wind project has progressed into the environmental assessment stage. The French company is building a 40-MW pilot project, which was approved by the state on 21 October, more than two years after it first submitted its application. This is the first time a project has reached this stage on the West Coast.
