For the ‘category’ search: We have divided news items into one (or sometimes more) of three categories.
1. State.  If the news refers to a single state only, this category applies
2. Offshore. If the news relates to the entire offshore sector, for instance BOEM announcing a new leasing round, it is filed under this category
3. Policy.  Where the item doesn’t relate directly to either a state or to the offshore sector (for instance tariffs on wind components or a FERC decision) it is filed under policy

The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) last week announced it has completed its environmental review of potential impacts from offshore wind energy leasing activities in the Humboldt Wind Energy Area (WEA), located 20 miles offshore northern California. Based on its analysis, BOEM has issued a finding of no significant impact.

A first of its kind in the U.S., offshore wind developer Ørsted and North America’s Building and Trade Unions (NABTU) have agreed to a “historic” national project labor agreement (PLA) for offshore wind projects along the Atlantic Coast. The agreement sets better standards for working conditions, equity, and pay standards, a livable wage in an industry that is flourishing.

BOEM has begun the Environmental Assessment phase for the Morro Bay Energy Area, located 20 miles off the California coast. The area, which BOEM extended over the summer to over 240,000 acres, has now entered the 60 day period for public comments. This critical period will display the number of ecological impediments the project may have to work through.

Ørsted will build an offshore wind steel fabrication plant in Maryland. The plan calls for the plant, located in Federalsburg, to supply large steel components for farms along to mid-Atlantic seaboard. The plant forms a partnership between the Danish company and US company Crystal Steel and will employ around 150 full-time welders, painters, and other specialists.
